I had a chance to get on Spirit Lake today with my oldest son Cole.We had temps in the 40’s and alot of water on the ice.I had caught some nice perch on Tuesday so I was looking forward to getting back on our hotspot. Is there anything better than watching the sunset when ice fishing?
Cole and I went back to the spot I had marked on the GPS on Tuesday. We sat on this spot for over a hour without any action so I deciced to move us into a little deeper water. As soon as we moved Cole put his first perch of 04 on the ice.
We had 3 poles in the shack and 1 tip-up out.Cole has never brought a fish in off a tip-up so he was in charge of it.The flag went up 4X for Cole but not a fish for his efforts. He did lose a fish close to the hole.He gets excited every time that flag goes up,but then again so does his dad!We had some good action for about a hour between the tip-out and poles in the shack.
We ended up with 8 perch and 1 walleye for our outting. Not great #’s but a very fun way to spend a few hours. We did catch 6 perch on the perch colored Glow Devil. Also caught a 1 perch and the small eye on a Angel Eye.These were my first fish on the Angel Eyes. These lures are deadly on the fall!!! Although our ice fishing on Spirit is not as good some of the lakes in MN it still can be productive if you can find the right fish. There seems to be a very good population of sub-legal eyes right now on the lake.Best of luck to all you hard water anglers.
