I had a few hours to get out fishing this afternoon so I ran up to Spirit Lake to see if I could find a few perch. The bite this year so far has been only average for perch.I set up in 18′ of water on the West of the lake.I really like to fish the late afternoon bite on this lake.
It only took about 15 minutes and the Vexilar started to show fish.I had one pole with a Pilkie and minnow. This pole was dead-sticked.I had a Glow Devil tipped with a wax worm on the pole in my hand.It wasn’t long and the fish started to bite. Here is a perch that is close to 11"’s.
I think I would have had better luck trying to fish only one pole as I missed a few fish trying to run two.I caught the perch on Glow Devils,Pilkies, and Kastmasters.I’m really starting to like these Glow Devils.I did take the red treble hooks off a few of them and put a single dropper hook on them. This seemed to work a little better for me today.I kept 14 perch and threw 3 back.
I also caught 4 walleyes off of minnows but these were all about a inch short of keeping.Spirit has a legal min. of 14"’s on walleye. For only being on the ice a few hours I thought the bite was great.Excuse some of the pics as I was by myself which makes for hard picture taking sometimes. Here is a picture of my youngest boy Caden. He thinks he’s a big boy when dad brings fish home.I wish all of you the best of luck on the water.

Hey Ryan thanks for the fishing report. Those look like some nice Perch. Glad you got into them the other day.
Nice report Buddy! I think I’m ready to hit Spirit myself.
