Farm pond fishing,NW IA

I spent the day on the ice with my good friend Paul Biberdorf and his dad Delbert. It was a great day for us with temps around 50 and sunshine. We fished out in the open at a local farm pond.

Some of these farm ponds can offer excellent panfish action. When we first started fishing the action was good for about hour and then the fish shut off. Here is Paul fighting a good gill.

We caught close to 25 nice gills in this short time.Tear drop jigs,Forage Fry, or Pilkies seemed to work best for us.We fished in water from 10-12′.Only one fish was put on the ice in the last 2 hours of fishing. Here is Delbert with a gill.

Thanks to Paul and Delbert for going today.I grew up with Paul and Delbert always had time to take us fishing when we were kids.It was a fun day with alot of talk about the ‘ole’ days and all the fish we used to catch.Paul and I only get a chance to ice fish a few times a year as distance has put a stop to alot of our old hobbies. Here is Paul with another gill.Best of luck.
