There are some nice Mille lacs perch to be had if you can find them and wait them out. Spoons like the Scenic Tackle Angel Eye are hot right now. The rocks are going and I can say that Isle bay is producing. Get away from the crowds and the traffic. The photo to the right were perch that came in one hole that took alot of patients.
Most fish are coming from 22-25 feet and having a flasher like the Vexilar Fl-18 will help you see these big perch hugging tight to the bottom with its zoom feature. All I can say is jig it and they will come. Wait them out and you will be rewarded. These perch in the photo to the left came late in the day on plain hooks and minnows. You need to be versatile.
And they taste great too!
Time to break out the electric fillet knife again.
Nice update Derek.
Thanks and have a Merry Christmas
I have heard some reports of the perch bite in the Isle Bay also. The perch are still active in the shallow rocks on the eastside. The walleyes are still on the slow side…..one small slot last evening and 5 lookers. I had 5 fish come in on the flasher around sunset………going to try some other bait and tackle next trip?
Great to see the perch action back on Mille Lacs!!!!!!!
Derek – I’m heading to Mille Lacs tomorrow (12/25). Do you think Isle Bay will still be producing? I was hoping to get into some Walleye’s but I guess I’m not really to picky. Being on the ice is betther than not being. I usually fish West Rush, but it’s slowed down a little, so it’s time for a new spot.
Thanks Bob and TIm . Merry X-mas to you too.
Josh, Yes I would definitely go. You may not see as much traffic tomorrow which is good
Quite ice equals good fishing.
Remember to pound that bait on the bottom when things slow, alway brings a few in!
Thanks Derek! Have a good Christmas!
You too Josh.
Good tip Tim, that has been working good this year.
Nice fish Derek……Merry X-mas to all.
Time for me to get back to family activities.
Adam, Thanks a ton for having us up last week! Fishing wasn’t great but was good and the accomadations,WOW…Great meeting you and maybe next time you can come have a burger with us instead of rivy’s eggs and bacon.(just kiddin Riv!!!! 1-22″ eye, 1 eelpout, 1-2 pound northern. Lot’s of nice eye’s were in the area though. Had our chances and could’nt sink the hooks.
Nice to meet you, Dan, and Jamey (James, Jim?).
Thanks for coming out and thanks for the breakfast…it hit the spot.
Its too bad that some of the fish you missed didn’t make it on film. You should have taken the rod out of Jamey’s hand after the 3rd or 4th miss.
Nice update Derek!!
Glad to see those nice perch on the chew!
