Ontario Fishing Report – June 2009

Hello all –

We are still in the thick of it up here in Ontario. Water temperatures are hovering in the upper 60’s to 80’s in some shallow bays.

In the last week and a half, we have had a noticeable turn on in the active bite which is hard to believe given this stealer 2009 season thus far. And fortunately, last weeks 90 degree weather seemed to have little impact on the bite. If anything, the bigger females are starting to become more & more active. I am guessing the late spawn and with that the lack of bait fish allow us to continue to see respectable numbers of smaller and now, bigger fish. In fact, I was out to Onaman again yesterday, 50 plus eyes with an average of 23” or better. My biggest of the day was a 26” which was a nice way to end the day. That is some pretty special fishing….

One of the huge perks to my job is that I get to see families from all over come together to renew family ties and rekindle old traditions. This was never more evident then in the past couple of weeks. We have seen the likes of father and son, boyfriend girlfriend, husband wife, not to mention my own quality time spent on the water with “the ol’ man”. Attached are some of the photos from different groups we have seen here in June.

Hard to believe June 2009 is almost gone, but we are certainly looking forward to the opportunity to land those huge lakers on Nipigon. The July laker bite out there, is second to none!

Until next time! Please enjoy!!!

  2. Chad!!!… …great report as usual. Sounds like the bite is still on and you are having some great memories made for all. 90 deg huh? Whew that’s hot, but at least you don’t have humidity.. Hope to head back up your way next spring.. Can’t wait to get into them big northerns again and try for some trophy walleye…take care!!
