12-22 Lake Pokegama, MN – Hot Walleye Bite

Well this weekend, I hit Pokegama for the first time in a numbers of years, and I will be sticking to it through out the Winter. The walleye bit seems to be getting better each day with most of the action from first light until 9 am and then again 3 pm until 10 pm. It seems that most of the walleyes like the looks of a jigging spoon. We had great luck on the Forage minnow spoon and the Glow Devils both tipped with a minnow head.

Ice conditions are great, from 8-12 inches of clear black ice through out the main lake and Wendigo arm.

  1. Sean I’m heading to Pokegama on 12/25. I’ve never been on the lake before. I’ll be heading north on 169. Which access do you think makes it the easiet to get on the lake where the fish should be? I have a Vexlar FL8, gas auger, and a ton of jigs. I was just hoping for some info. on helping to maybe catch some good walleyes.

  2. JOsh,
The best bet for action is coming from the Wendigo end. There is a public Access off of the Laplant Road. THere are a number of houses just out from the access….try fishing in 17-20 foot both early and late in the day.
