Rainy Lake, Minnesota Fishing report 6-16-09

Sounds like a Broken record, but Calling ALL ANGLERS!!!! The Big fish continue to line up to show there mugs on IDO!! Whether we’ve focused energies on Smallies, Walleyes or Pike this past week we’ve had the net wet most of the day. The Freakishly Giant pike continue to destroy tackle. This week saw numerous fish over 10lbs again with yesterdays 3 Gators exceeding the 10lb mark bringing the total to 48 Pike since the first week in May to break 10lbs!! Yesterdays biggest fish went 22lbs making that the 4th big girl to stretch the springs over 20 this year!! Trophy fish……Trophy waters…… Pretty simple really!! LOL!! Well Not that simple!!

This will have to be a bit short and sweet as I need to run, but the fish are still seperated for the most part. Big fish in a transitional period and eating fish are being found in anywhere from 24-36 f.o.w. For the big fish I have located Mud/weed transition lines as well as Rock/Weed transition lines off current breaks or wind. Working those areas in accordance with the depth we are fishing that day. The depth we are fishing often times depends on the weather conditions for the day and baitfish movements. High sun brings us off the second break, and clouds or wind we fish off the first break. Stickbaits, Big jigs and plastics, Slip Bobbers…. Key is to be on the fish, and when they show themselves bank your pattern. The patterns are worth there weight in Gold, and gold is at a very high level.

I’ve been asked SEVERAL times in regards to fishing US side or Canada?? Trust me they are both extreme fisheries. All my fish have come from the US side of Rainy Lake this open water season. I fish 99 percent of the time on the US side of Rainy Lake. For the angler that ones a better than average chance at posting a PB, Rainy Lake has to be at the top of your list in the confines of the United States and global fishery for that matter. The amount of trophy fish we put on anglers lines year in and year out is Ri-DONK-ulous!! Load the rods and come on up!!

Sitting here in the middle of June has me daydreaming of the July-September run. Often times it seems impossible to get any better than we are experiencing, but July-September often times are the most consistent months for numbers and quality of fish simply from the weather stability aspect. I have openings in July-September, so go ahead and take your RAINY LAKE adventure OUT OF YOUR BUCKET LIST!! You’ll be hooked for life!! Tight lines team!!
