Mille Lacs Weekend Walleye Report

Another typical weekend on "the Pond". The weekend offered up warm temps, clear skies and still a few BIG fish. Our big fish bite is still going, however, it takes some patients. With the clear skies and high pressure we got to watch a lot of fish on camera, but finding the biters was another story. The first picture is Travis Renville with a solid 27 inch Mille Lacs beauty.

With the fish being less agressive this weekend we had to change up our presentation. Where jigging spoons had been the answer the last few days, this weekend it was livebait and tip-ups. The second picture is Travis’s brother with one of his two HUGE walleye he got this weekend.

It didn’t take long for Chase to get in the action. I think he pulled this fish about 1 minute after we got set-up in the house. It would have been really nice if this pace would have kept up for the whole weekend. But as I said, if you were patient this weekend you were rewarded with big fish.

This last picture is Travis’s brother again with another big Mille Lacs Walleye. This one was released but may end up on the wall as a reproduction. This one taped in just under 29 inches but had some serious weight to it. Great fish guys!

  1. I need the dirt! How deep- how large were the shiners- how far off the bottom- rigged on a plain hook or other?

Very nice fish gentlement. And to be getting them consistently through the ice… VERY impressive. I hope your bite holds well into the new year.

  2. We are still working the same edge 15-18 ft. There seems to be a lot of big fish there, and when the conditions are right they REALLY Bite. However, the weather this weekend was just not right for a good bite. But, with some patients you could get a few good ones to go.

Adam and I only caught 1 fish each this weekend. But, we don’t get to spend a lot of time actually fishing. If you are looking for a Big Fish Bite, this is it!

  3. Nice report Scott!
Good to see big fish through the ice.
Have these depths still catered to the lowlight periods of the day or have you guys seen a sporadic day bite here?
Are these areas adjacent to any weed growth or shoreline structure?
Doubt I will make it up there any time soon, but fun to see some good reports!!

  4. I must say, we had a GREAT time. As Scott mentioned, waiting out these fish was the name of the game. I’ve attached some more pics from my camera.

I can’t say enough good things about Scott and Adam and the service they provided. The sleeper was immaculate! My brother and I couldn’t get over how nice it was. The TV hooked up to the underwater cam was the best. How much fun was it watching that? Lets just say the Vikes were on the radio, and the fish on TV! We recorded some awesome video, and this week I’m going to try to convert some of the vids to veiw on the computer.

Anyways, Scott and Adam were great. They checked on us regularly, and would sometime knock back a snap-fizzzz and shoot the breeze. I’d HIGHLY recommend these guys, no if, ands, or buts!

  5. For the most part, the morning bite has been a struggle. We see a lot of fish on Camera in the AM but the action usually doesn’t start until around noon. At noon the larger of the small perch move it and this usually triggers the bite.

Days like today don’t help. With the lack of snow cover the fish are very skiddish. The best bite is still the afternoon and early evening hours.

We continue to look for better bites on the lake. However, the bite is tough for the most part. A few cloudy days with some low pressure would be just what the doctor ordered!!

  6. Thats great to hear you guys had fun. Thats what its all about. Glad to see you brought the little guy.

I don’t think you will find a better ice service. Mille Lacs Guide Service is setting a standard for service and quality and will continue to for years to come.

  7. Nice pics Travis. I have a few more that I will send you by email. Glad you guys had a good time! Sunday was pretty good also. I will try to get another report up Tuesday.

  8. Derek-

If you guys continue to provide the service we experienced over the weekend, you guys will be the top choice on anybodies list. It was a pretty special weekend as well. My brother has some serious back problems, and will be going in for surgery the end of Jan. I wanted to get him and his son out before that comes around. I know he really appreciated the weekend, and Chase was ecstatic. I think he liked hagning around Scott more than us! Hope he wasn’t to much of a pest Scott!

Once again, thanks guys. Keep up the great work. I know who I’ll be recommending in the future!

  9. I love the penguin scene Travis. Makes me thing of an old college friend. I should have smacked him in the back and through the ice.

  10. I hate updating old reports, but I have been too busy on the water to get on the computer. I am getting a few minutes away from x-mas activities to check on the reports……I just wanted to say it was nice meeting you guys and I’m glad you had a good time.

Chase was no problem…..at least we had current updates on what was going on in the house when we were outside…..just caught an ealpout……big fish just came through on the camera…..one just looked at the bait and left……just caught a walleye…….He was having a good time.
