I had a chance to get on the ice today with a few of my good friends.Joining me today were Carol Gunnett, her friend Susan, and my old fishing buddy Wade Kuehl. My oldest boy Cole also joined us for a few hours.Carol and Susan simply wanted to go where they could have a chance to catch alot of fish.
We chose the right place and day for some great action on the ice.Dog Creek has a great population of smaller fish. Here is Susan with a small crappie.
We caught fish all day long and had alot of fun.Wade had not been on the ice for many years so it was a blast to see him catch many fish today. Here is Wade with a perch.I think this was the first time I’ve fished with Wade that a drum was not caught!!!
If I had to put a guess on the # of fish we caught today I would say from 125-150 fish were caught.Carol and Susan both have not seen the modern ice techniques of todays ice fishermen so it was fun to show them what fun ice fishing can be with the right equipment and tactics. They got to see how fast a good hand auger can cut through ice, used ultra light rods and reels, caught fish off new style ice lures, and they are now both pro’s on the Vexilar unit.I had a great time on the ice with my old friend Wade and my 2 new ice fishing buddies Carol and Susan. Here is a pic of us outside the shack today.I hope I get a chance to share a shack with all of you someday again.Take care.

Ryan,
Nice report. Even though we din’t get into any larger fish it was a lot of fun having fast action all day. Better than sitting in the house.
Thanks for the day on the ice!
Here’s a pic of Cole Hale having a little fun on the ice.
He’s turning out to be a fine young angler.
Thanks for sharing this guys!
Having fun on the ice is what its all about.
I am heading to Lake of the woods in a couple days and I am so excited to pull some walleyes through the ice regardless of their size! Of course, I wouldn’t mind a hefty walleye on the other end, but its all about having a blast on the ice and thats what I intend to do.
Good report Ryan!
Wade thanks for putting Cole’s pic. up.Your camera takes some great pics.It will be put to good use come open water time.
Steve, best of luck on LOTW.I have never fished it but heard it can be very good through the ice.

Ryan, is there any way to access Center Lake without an ATV? I heard there’s a lot of Crappie there.
Wade
Wade, sorry I did not see your question until today Center Lake can be awesome for spring crappie fishing. It is easy to get to and shore fish for crappie.Think we should hit it in April?
Was back on Dog Creek for a few hours this morning. The fish were very slow and did not want to bite.Cole and I worked hard and caught 8 small fish.Slow but it was fun. Here is Cole with a small crappie. In a few years we should have another good ice nite bite on these little guys when they grow up.
