After being pinned up at work for a week looking outside and seeing sunny days with temps climbing to 80 degrees, it was hard not to be revved up too hit the water Saturday morning, unless…..you were watching the predicted weather, a cold front with a mix of wind and rain. Stepping out the door early Saturday morning it was evident, JB hit this Saturday on the head with the forecast
Still it wasn’t hard to stay motivated, slow fishing or gangbuster, either way it was on pool 8 with another local bass guru Chad, and I’m always open for lessons Another bonus for us both was knowing the pool and hitting each others favorite structures trying to put a pattern together for either Smallies or LM.
The Catching might not have been on fire but we both covered enough water whaling baits that a bingo card was played on some good fish Smallies off rocks and the green fished tucked not far off had us grinning ear to ear, man does time fly when your havin’ fun
Wing dams and rock shorelines produced most of are action. The bronze fish were found tucked right along the current seams in the rock with the green fish being more off to the sides in the slack water and eddies tight to the shoreline with wood or grass. The coolest part of the game today……it was top water spook action just before the cold started droppin’ in around 11 o’clock
After changing out the hooks on my super spook the other day the middle hook was removed. The results today, if that spook was being thrown during a tourney the middle hook would be on, casting for picture fish and fun, I don’t see it going back on my spook. Hook removal was so much easier and I think them fish kinda liked one less probe too
Things slowed some and there was a need for change, you guys know how hard it is to convince a bass guy to head for pike waters …..but we did
The white Zoom frogs shinned for catching toothy critters out of weed mats. Chad even finally caved in and said he liked the way them gators pull When one of these gnarled tooth critters decides it time to eat whatever that is swimming by its face, there is no stopping them. One miss, two misses third strike games on, kind of makes me have a mini stroke every time
As the temp kept dropping and the rains got harder the fishing became slower. It was time to button things up and make a long run back to the landing. I want to share this lesson learned in a hurry by me…..the faster the boat the faster you will get wet
While soaked and loading up the boat we were both still laughing and couldn’t believe how good the bite was to us even on the est day of the week.
Thanks again for the ride today Chad, it’s cool when you have to take your hat off
Good luck fishing people
