This week’s Ontario Fishing Report allows us to report some very productive walleye fishing starting on the in-land lakes.
As the water temperatures are warming to the 50 degree range, we are finding good concentrations of walleye near flow. It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s a large river or small stream, flow and the surrounding structure are key to a fun outing. An important distinction to make is that moving water near holes of 15ft or better produce better than flow dumping onto a flat.
This was never more evident then two days ago when we portaged into a medium sized remote lake. After a work out to open the trail, we were treated to a 60 plus day of fast action, hungry walleye. In fact, we were so selective, for shore lunch, we made an on the fly rule of keeping nothing under 17 inches and nothing over 18 inches. Having that kind of selective luxury equates to a good day of fishing.
Other adventures are taking us back to our spring northern pike sanctuaries where we continue to land multiple fish 40” or better. Our trophy catches are nicely augmented by some hard finding, good numbers of upper 30” pike. Pictured above is Josh H. and his 42” hog he boated on yesterday’s (Thursday) adventure.
Trophy brook trout on Lake Nipigon have also started to become very active. Brian B. staying in Cabin #6 landed this beautiful 24”, 5+ lbs coaster while out fishing yesterday. His week of fishing has landed him several lake trout, big pike, big walleye and trophy brook trout to boot.

Nice report, Great looking fish Chad
..I’m ready to get back up there already!!…Great report and great fishing!
Sure wish I could get up there. Looks like some great fishing.
Don’t forget the new law that took effect today 06/01/09. All US citizens returning to the states now need a passport to get back in……No passport=no entry…..I don’t know if that would be so bad……But just a warning to all traveling to Canada….
From what I understand kids 16 and under do not need a passport with there parents just the normal stuff (birth certificate etc.)…. Is this correct?
