Castle Rock Lake ; Adams county Wisconsin

Started out on Castle Rock Lake , which is located on the west side of Adams county , Wi, . It is a lake which was made from a dam , called Castle Rock dam on the wisconsin river. Also the Yellow river empties into the castle rock as well. We fished a area first at the railroad bridge ,which has a lot of structure from the support piles of the bridge and a lot of nice areas to hold eyes and smallies. We were pitching 1/8 once jigs of various colors , with orange and pink doing the best for the day in the the stand -up jigs. Jigs were tipped with leeches and minnows. The eyes were hiding behind the pilings of the bridge, verticle jigging was the key to triggering them to bite and to prevent from getting snagged. Water depth was on the average about 20 feet with smaller deeper breaks around.

We also fished some shallower areas by the R.R bridge to try for some smallies and they were there. These spots were rock piles also but up to about 7 feet of water and dropping off into 20 feet of water. The smallies ranged from 12″ to 17″ inches and all were caught on the jig and live bait. We tried casting spinner baits but the water was to cold and they just wanted live bait for us. We also down sized our presentations with a split-shot and plain hook and picked up some smallies and some more walleyes. So we decided to try another area to get out of the winds.

Went to the Buckhorn Bridge to try to get out of the winds that were picking up fast. We drifted in the current above the bridge in about 8 to 9 feet of water with the 1/8 once jigs and split shot rigs. Right away we started getting some smaller walleyes, whitebass and a few crappies. Numbers of fish were good here but the size was not there for the eyes. So we decided to go fish out from the bridge and jig some of the deepers holes which ussually hold some nice eyes. We got some more walleyes with the share of them on the short side but ended up with a couple for supper , overall a good day fishing with the wife on a great lake.

Great report, I wanted to try deeper water in the upper part of the Pete this weekend, but the boat’s motor gave us trouble before we got a chance to check it out.
