Lake Wisconsin Walleye fishing report

The walleye fishing on Lake Wisconsin over the past three weeks has been the best I’ve ever seen it. Fishing over this past weekend didn’t put any really big walleyes in the boat but it did produce excellent numbers of both walleyes & saugers along with several saugers in excess of 22″ long.

We are primarily trolling with lead core but I am seeing some fish being caught by other fisherman using a variety of different techniques. Everything from anchoring and casting, vertical jigging, trolling flatlines and/or trolling with planer boards has produced at least some fish for others.

A lot of people have been asking me which crank baits I’ve been doing the best on and they probably think I’m doing a little dance with the answer given to that question. The truth is this, if your not getting bit on the one your using, take it off and put something else on because these fish are on an absolute tear.

We’ve been trolling with just about everything in the box. #10 and #12 husky jerks, the regular rapala husky, #5 & #7 jointed shad raps, deep diving shad raps, x-rap shad raps, bent lip shad raps, rip shads…..you name it and I’ve probably caught a fish on it. But if we troll for more than 10 minutes without catching a fish, those lures come off and something else goes on. Either a different lure or a different color.

Last Friday morning I was out with Steve Bohler who lives on Lake Wisconsin. We fished from 6:00am to 11:00am and caught 25 walleyes & saugers. He kept his limit for the first time ever even though he has been living on and fishing on Lake Wisconsin for more than seven years now.
Friday afternoon Dwayne Schultz and his brother Gary fished with me from noon to 6:00pm and they caught 31 walleyes & saugers. Saturday I did not fish at all but I was back out on Sunday morning fishing with Tim Roebens from 6:00am to 11:00am and we caught 24 walleyes & saugers, 5 crappies, a 32″ northern pike and one giant shad that Tim snagged in the side. Everyone took home a limit of eaters except me. I didn’t keep any.

If you’ve ever thought about chasing walleyes on Lake Wisconsin, now is the time to do it. They’ve never bit better and it looks like its going to stay this way probably until we have our first big hatch of baitfish.

  1. Great job putting your boaters on fish Joel.

I can’t think of too many people out there that works as hard as you, the results speak for themselves

  2. Some more fantastic forearm tendentious therapy from our state’s namesake lake! Perfect remedy for walleye busters who haven’t done a lot of busting as of late.

    Great repo Joe!
