I had the pleasure of sharing the ice with Jeff and Perry today. It was nice to step out of the truck greeted by calm winds and mild temperatures. As we were getting set up Perry pulled the first eye out of the hole before we even had all our lines in the water. It was a fat 26 ½ inch fish that got us started in the right direction with anticipation of a good bite ahead.
We missed a couple of good bites early, but that’s why they call it fishing and not catching. The underwater camera revealed some bigger fish roaming in the background, so I decided to spread out some tip-ups with some nice sized lively shiners. Before I even had them set I heard a commotion inside. I went back to check and Perry had a beautiful 28 ½ inch eye to show of. A quick photo, which can be seen up top, and it was released to be
caught another day.
Jeff answered back with a 10lb pike and then the pot-bellied 13lb pike in the second photo. The pike kept us busy on the tip-ups and the rattle reels as we tried filtering through the many small perch in search of walleyes on the LX3’s. We ended up catching four pike over 6lbs and had a few snapped lines and even a straitened hook.
As midday snuck up on us we put on our game caps and got ready for the hot afternoon walleye run. I started off the run with the nice 24 inch fish seen in the third photo. We had many fish cruising through, and it wasn’t long before Jeff and I doubled on this pair of healthy 19 inch eyes that Jeff is holding up in the last picture. The weather was awesome and we caught plenty of big fish. What a fun day to be on the water.
We had a cancellation for the Deluxe sleeper for this weekend. We have since filled Saturday, but still have Friday and Sunday nights open yet.
We also still have an opening for 1 group Saturday and 1 group Sunday for guided fishing. It doesn’t get much better then it is right now! Talk about fun.
I would say!!!
Is the action occuring in the afternoon/early eve? Anything happening after dark?
Keep’em warm till Chappy and I get there on Mon. Sure wish I could get away to take Sun. night also. Oh well, got to go when you can go!
We’ve been getting fish through out the day with the activity peaking early afternoon till just after dark. I haven’t stayed much past dark yet this season, but previous years there has been a short lull in the action after the feeding frenzy and then consistent action the rest of the night. I have been out some nights where I wanted to take the lines out of the water just so I could get some sleep.
Great reports guys. Keep ’em coming.
We have not fished the night yet, but I am guess the bite will be nothing short of fantastic as Adam indicated.
Would the price for Friday or Sunday be the same as it says on your website, or is there a last minute/In-Depthangling discount?
Well…. I guess I’ll be the first potentialy!
We may be able to work out a last minute In-depthangling discount for Sunday
We will work out an In-depth discount on a group for guided fishing for Saturday & Sunday also. Time is getting close and the bite is soooooo good

Travis, the way it looks, you will be the first overnighters on Saturday. From what I am anticipating, don’t plan on sleeping.LOL
Boy, I think everybody from the I-D.A. board should get that discount! What a jip! (Riv, Cancel the resv.and then I’ll call him and rerent it. )Don’t tell anyone though.OOP’S did I write that out loud??????
Chappy, relax buddy!! Notice I didn’t say Friday night. Our Sunday rates are discounted, not Friday or Saturday. You will get a discount on Sunday if you want to book for that night. Just clearing things up.
Scott’s right Chap.. We have been waiting for our webmaster to get that up on our site.
Sorry for any confusion.. Looks like the bite will be good for you.. Good Luck
Relax guy’s , Did’nt mean to make you guy’s jump! Just kiddin’ around. $150 ain’t a bad deal with all the stuff you got and you keep up with the fish! Hoping to have a piggy good time !!!!
hi Scott, what general area of the lake are you set up in, how is the ice thickness, driving out yet. sounds like a good time. what water depths are you out to. thanks, hope to get up there. Jack.
We are working the top and bottom of a break that is roughly 14′ and 24′. Vehicles are starting to show up near the shore and in the bays. The ice is still shifting around and, depending on the wind, a few gaps of open water were still around as of yesterday.
I few houses are showing up now on the eastside of Mille Lacs. The new ice out about 1/2-3/4 mile will be limiting travel till it increases in thickness. I would guess it might be around 4+ inches right now. This shifting is due to the winds that we are continuing to experience. This past Wednesday was the first day with calm winds. Normally in years past, I would say that I would feel safe enough to head out to the mid part of the lake…….but this is a different year. We need some cold weather and some light winds to freeze up this lake of ours.
Hi Bobber , How far up the east side are you talking about ? I’m wondering about the area from Fishers south to around LakeSide. Any info on that area?
THanks
The bad area was right in front of Fishers Resort. The new ice in this area might be around 4+ inches right now. I would call Fishers or Agate bay and check for conditions. I just got off the lake now and I was south of the 3/4 mile out of Lakeside…….on Dawson reef. I had 13 inches on this reef.
