Just a quick update on the lake. We put out a sleeper house yesterday and there was 10-11 inches of solid clear ice on the West side. We did not drive on yet, but I am thinking about it by the weekend if we don’t get a lot of snow.
We did find time to wet a line or a little bit after we got the house set. This is my dad, Gary, with a nice fat Mille Lacs walleye. Unfortuately, the rest of the pictures we took outside didn’t come out. Who knew you needed to use a flash after dark?
We did manage to catch 4 walleye in the hour we fished and they were all big healthy females. I expect the big fish bite to continue into next week for sure. All the fish came on Glow Devil Jiggins Spoons tipped with fatheads.
If you are planning on fishing Mille Lacs anytime soon there is some very good ice and LOTS of open water. Areas that we fished Saturday AM were wide open yesterday. Becareful out there and as always proceed with caution. There were several full size pickups out on Cove Bay and there were reporting 12-14 inches of ice. See ya on the water!
Due to a cancellation. The deluxe sleeper is open this weekend. We also have one open personal guide trip open for Sat and Sun. First come first served basis. Call Scott at 1-320-293-3287
Scott, you said you had 10-11 inches of ice on the west side. Without giving out an exact location would that be south-west, middle-west, or north-west. I would like to go out of the casino access this weekend and just looking for as much info on ice conditions as I can get.
Thanks,
Bic
I am not sure about the ice near the casino, but I know Indian point had open water around it as did the bay North of Indian Point. As you head North from there the ice gets much better. There were several areas on the SW side that had open spots also.
Todays guide clients had an excellent day it sounds like. I will get a report up tomorrow AM. Wait until you see some of these hogs!
