Well finally! We made our first trek out Saturday on the east side. The lake is a mess to say the least. For the first mile to mile and a half there are 5 ice dams to be crossed. These bad ice ridges vary from 2-4 foot in height and ranging 10-20 ft. wide. You need to drive up and down them in places to find your way through.
The fishing was a much needed fix I hadn’t experienced since before the deer opener. The perch were cooperating with only one walleye in the mix. The fish were greedy. Watching on the aquaview is alway a kick, if I missed them on one just jig the other and there they went. I caught the perch jigging a orange and yellow Kastmaster and a green willow spoon. I kept enough for dinner and called it a day.
Hope to get further out to some of our other spots next week. The ice varies from 3 inches to 14 inches where the ice has layered.
Till then keep safe and know where your going on early ice.
Nice perch Tim.
That Big one was 13 1/2 inches. Can’t wait to see those in february. They were really tasty last night!
You cant beat fresh perch thats for sure. Buddy of mine did well in Isle bay on Sat. Lots of traffic already. Dickies got most of his houses out from what he said.
