After chasing walleyes up & down the Mississippi River all spring it was time to hit some of my home water for a change. Joining me on this trip were both my daughters who love to fish crappies with dad. We started off shallow only to find some small bass. I knew it was time for a change in our search.
So it was off to deeper water to find some submerged timber. Just as I thought there they were on my graph. Some were holding tight to the wood & some were high off the wood. The fish that were up in the water column were very aggressive & it didn’t take long and the fun had started.
We were fishing small flu flu’s from custom jigs & spins on 4lb test line. The colors that worked the best for us were white/white & white/blue. We also caught some on just a small hook tipped with a minnow & a splitshot about a foot up on the line.
With the warmer temps it won’t be long & these fish will move in shallow to spawn (Please remember to pratice C&R)
and will be very easy to catch in numbers.
Just want to thank my girls for a great day on the water & can’t wait to share my boat with them again SOON!!
That’s some good Father/Daughter time!
Sully
Nice fish Doug! Looks like a good time
Pete
Very nice fish
You know what the say…….Early bird gets the worm but the 2nd mouse gets the cheese! Can’t say as I blame ya for hitting up the shallows first though. One pole can be too much on a bed! Very good point about the C&R aspect of the upcoming spawn. Mississippi crappie are long time suckers for the best jig a buck can buy (flu/flu) as well!
It don’t get any better than that Doug!
Very nice, great job Doug!
Jami
Did your daughter get a good pic for facebook?
Sorry, but it was a calm day.
LOL Lars. How come you didn’t stop over & say Hi?
Nice report Doug! Gotta love getting the family out on the water!
Cool pictures, from the smiles I would say they had a blast fishing with Dad
Great job Doug
Great report Doug good to see you back in the saddle again.
Nice job Doug and it’s great to see you spending time on the water again with your family!
Thanks guys!! It’s good to be on my feet again & hope to stay that way for awhile. I live to hunt & fish!!!
Fish on
Nice outing Doug. Crappie fishing in the spring sure is a great way to spend a little time with family.
Great job Doug. Glad to see the gals got out with you! Sounds like fu-un.
Hey Chris, How’s being a dad treating ya? Sure do miss sharing my boat with ya. Does she ever let you out?LOL
Looks like a great time This time of year is great for spending time in the boat with the family and the fish are normally on the chew. Great job.
Life is much busier with the new one. She’s 8 weeks now! Time’s flying. There is so much other stuff to do too but I need to remember to give my boat some loving too right? Maybe I’ll try getting out on Saturday. The moms might be mad if I attempt it on Sunday, eh?
I’d like to try the new ride if you’re up to it
Chris
Chris, I’ll be on leech for the opener, When I get back we’ll take the new ride out!! See ya then.
