Rock River Fishing Report Fort Atkinson WI

Sunday with the air temps in the 50’s I had to give up a day of deer hunting to see if the walleyes and saugers were still on a fall feeding frenzy. I’m glad I did because the fishing was awesome. Make sure you check out the rest of my report to see how I caught them and how the day ended.

I started off fishing one of my favorite spots in the fall in 14 fow. It didn’t take long and I was catching fish. Most of the fish were saugers and lots of them. Most were short ranging around 14 7/8 but if you hung in there you would get a keeper fish like in my photos. On the Rock River the walleyes and saugers have to be 15 inches and you can keep a limit of five. I started off fishing one rod with nuckle ball jig and fathead minnow and on the other rod Zone-R nuckle ball jig with a four inch purple ringworm. It didn’t take long and I had all ringworms on my jigs, plastics was the ticket.

My biggest fish was caught on K-Grub and that was the only fish. It is the 19 inch sauger in the first photo. Most of my fish were caught with Zone-R nuckle ball jigs and a purple four inch ringworm. As the day went on you had to fight the wind where I was fishing so most anglers would not stay long in my area. Using your trolling motor was key this day. I also caught some fish on lindy no-snag sinker and 12 inch leader with a plain hook and fathead. There was a trick to that and you had to make sure you kept the sinker off the bottom 12 inches so you didn’t pick up leaves.

I caught over 30 fish this day and can’t wait until I get out again. All my fish were caught in deep holes ranging from 12 to 14 fow. Here is a picture of the way I rigged my nuckle ball jig with the ringworm. I caught more fish when I didn’t jig it so much. Mainly just let it hang and drag on the bottom. The fish didn’t want to much action you mainly just had to hold your rod still and keep the jigs on the bottom and wait for them to hit. There’s not to many day left before this river will start to freeze so get out there and try this great fall feeding frenzy on the Rock River. Safety first so you can fish another day.
