Fishing this past week has been exceptional for just about everything from big browns to big walleye’s! It’s nice to be back in the boat and feeling the thump of a walleye on a jig rod, then taking that exact same set up and fishing for trout.
Just about every trip out in the boat we’ve been averaging 20-40 browns and steelhead on spinning tackle!!!! A tough day is 15-20 fish.
It’s also great to be able to go out the next day and catch these big trout through the ice. I have not had a fish fight harder then a big steelhead through the ice!
Our fish have mainly been coming on jigs and gulp or skein and spawn, this past week coho eggs out fished everything else.
Best part of this week was that i was able to take my kids out fishing for about 1 hour after school and we had a blast catching walleye’s!! Nothing better than that!

Wow Steelhead through the ice, that sounds challenging on your equipment. What are you using rod, reel, and line?

8 lb trilene vanish transition mainly, with a soft tip glass rod and smooth drag system. Your 100 percent correct most of the ice fishing reels do not hold up to these fish or the drags “gum” up during a battle.
They are lots of fun and not as easy to catch as most people think.
awesome pics and awesome videos
great another place i HAVE to ice fish
Great report Eric and great pictures.

Thanks a bunch!
The bite is still solid this past week, took 3 clients out from Pittsburgh and in 6 hours of shore fishing yesterday we landed 20 fish steelhead and browns. Didn’t even have to get the boat wet which is always great. For me there’s something magical about standing on shore and catching big steelies and browns. Cut my teeth guiding on the rivers float fishing from shore and up in the rivers many many years ago and it’s still probably one of my favorite ways to fish!
