Pool 10 Tuff Bite Ice Fishing

With three days of fishing ahead of me I had to plan my days out because I knew they would go fast. My first day was planned out to meet up with Steve and Jake Manning. The plan was to get some nice gills and crappies for the fry pan. Heading out to the community spots we knew we would be in for some good action. Having Jake with us is always fun, I have logged several hours in the boat and on the ice with this you man and there is never a dull moment with him as my fishing partner. The baits this day were Mini Merts tipped with either a spike or a waxie..The bite was tuff so we were down sizing to the smaller jigs. By days end we had a nice mess to clean up and put right in the pan.

Steve had the hot stick on Thursday..With the Lil Cecil, he would work the bait from just under the ice, twitching then dropping , twitching then dropping till the bait mad it to the bottom then start all over again…He had two real nice crappies in the 12-13″ using this technique. I can’t say this enough,,but the bite was real real tuff and a lot of the anglers were not doing very well at all..I was one of these anglers.

On Friday I woke up to MORE SNOW I had been having troubles with my 3-wheeler wanting to start on her own. I was having to spray a little starter fluid in the carb to get it running. Long story short I pulled the carb off and found that the choke wasn’t working..With a quick repair and some new gas lines I was back in business. By noon i was out on the ice heading out on the Ambro looking to find some fish for this years PDC GTG on Jan. 24th. I ran right out to one of my favorite spots and found some medium sized gills…With the Marcum LX5 i found that they did not want to come up off the bottom…For all you that have flashers..I really do not think I could have known these fish were here without the power of the LX5..Down sizing again to a small Gill Pill from CJS and a waxie..

Saturday was my last day to fish for this week so I had a big day planned.. I put in at the South Ambro Landing. With my wheeler full of gas and my Strike Master Lazer Mag full of gas I headed out to the shores of Big Lake..My first holes were drilled and I was set up at just after 7am. Using the LX-5 i hopped around to the first 6 holes I drilled… Nuthin I kept moving down the shore line till I was dangerously close the the Roseau, hitting every nook and crany of the shore line. Nuthin I wheeled over to the other side and repeated the same thing…Looking shallow and deep, working high and low…Nuthin Did i mention the bite was tuff
I worked my way up into Tilmont, Mud Slough, Fish Lake, Big Mo, Upper Doubles…. I can’t tell you how many holes I drilled…Without the use of my Lazer Mag by Strike Master I would never been able to do this… At the end of the day i finally started putting two and two together…Weeds…If i did not have weeds/dieing weeds I was not on fish…Come the end of the day i put more miles on my equipment then I had fish but it was a great day. Every Day on the Ice is a Great Day !!
