Was good to get out on the ice again after being away from it all for so long. Some of my family & I spent news years day on lake Zumbro in search of a bite. Although fishing for us was slow, We still had a great day on the ice & managed to catch a few nice gills. (C&R)
The ice is 12 to 14in where we were & trucks are driving on it. Can remember when the lake was so rough to travel on.
On friday afternoon we headed out to one of my favorite spots on a area lake in search of a crappie bite. Soon after getting set up we were marking & catching gills till the sun got low in the sky. Then my graph started marking fish high in the water coloum & the crappies were there. Everybody caught fish a a great time was had by all.
Fishing over the deepest water in the lake, these crappies were only down 5ft to 14ft down & some were willing to hit Rat finkees,(glow- pink/glow) Shrimpos tipped with waxies. Some even hit on a minnow under a float.
We did manage enough fish for a meal & called it quits soon after 8pm. Sure is nice to have the young bucks pull all the gear!! I must be getting old or wiser. Be safe on the ice & wear your cleats! Good fishin Doug

Good to hear you finally got out Doug ,also glad to hear you got on some fish ,my ears have been hearing of a slow bite out there ,maybe things are starting to turn around now.
