More Crappie Action on the Backwaters of the Sippi

I was out again today with a good friend of the family Nick Ihde.We were out with the thought of being able to find the crappies again. With the weather looking like it would be a real nice day again we were planning on using the long rods and jigging for crappies. It didn’t take long to figure out, that they were still here..Nick started out using a Lil Cecil gold glitter. He had the hot stick early in the day landing several fish in the 10″ range with a couple of 11’s to boot.

By mid morning the Cecil bit had tapered off and the fishing slowed up some. That’s when I dug into my CJS box with my Ratso’s. I tied on an orange Ratso and began working the water column from just under the ice to the bottom. I started pulling some real nice slabs from about 2 foot off the bottom.Keeping the bait moving all the time seemed to be the key to get these fish to hit the jig.

We had a great day today. this morning we both got a chill so I set up the Otter Cabin in a flash and the heat was on to break the chill. We pulled some more fish from the house and withing about an hour we were ready to get back out hole hopping. Here is a picture of some of the jigs that put the fish on the ice for us today..From left to right we have the Lil Cecil then on the next box is the Shrimpo and then the Ratso… These baits have been my best baits over the past…..well lets just say, Many Years !!!

It was a great day out on the ice again and the next time I’m out I hope to see you out there !!!

  1. nice report! It’s nice to see the crappie action starting already. Did you get into any bass? There seems to be plenty of them this year.
