Mid Eau Clair Wisconsin Ice Report

Mid Eau Clair in Bayfield county was frozen over when we arrived to deer camp, best of friends Scott and I knew right away we were going to get our feet on ice before this trip was over

After checking the ice conditions the first trip, and finding it one easy spud hit with water popping through the hole, we needed to be a bit patient By Tuesday Nov. 25th we found a solid 2 inches of ice with some snow cover…..it was time to spread out and fish A good snow now and then added to the highlight of being on the ice

The set up was in a bay of weeds with a sand point all being in 3-5fow. Tip ups were spread out armed with walleye suckers. I punched some holes hoping to produce something hopping around with the jig stick. Come the magic hour just before dark the MarCum LX-5 was producing some nice fat red marks tucked in the weeds but I could not pull anything up out of the cover.

While I was focused on the LX-5 the words we all like to hear rang out…..FLAG Todd was able to ice this nice 16.5inch eye making it the first snap shots on the ice for 2008

Scott’s flag stood proudly shortly after and he was hooked into a good solid eye only to have it come un-buttoned at the hole just as I was arriving……sorry I didn’t get there sooner but with as slick as the ice was and no creepers ….running was out of the question without taking a digger

The third flag was mine but dropped, I never did pull anything from the weeds either but I know there was still a smile on my face from ear to ear……. I was ICE FISHING BABY!!!!

Not a work out but a first good trip too the ice with great friends during my favorite Holiday vacation. You just got to love everything about the whole North scene Sipppin’ suds with buds on the first ice…….it don’t get know better than that.

Good luck on the ice people!!!!

Great Friends, Beaver on the right, Scott sitting and Todd in the background.

I could almost feel the excitement dripping out of your report. Great pics and welcome home buddy!

  2. That had to be like heaven being able to walk out on hard water and fish again. Great report buddy and welcome home.

  3. Great first outing Bret!! You’re killing me! I can’t wait to get on the ice. I drove by a couple lakes by my house this morning and they were about 60% covered with a skim ice. Unfortunately we’re supposed to top out at 55 degrees today. I’m hoping to have safe ice here by christmas.
