Lake Mendota –Pike- Bass and Catfish

Lake Mendota is going really good now lots of fish on the rocks and weed edges from pike to panfish! We caught fish on the deep rocks and shallow rocks pretty much everywhere we fished. Out in front of marshall Park is good, Govenor’s is great even early ice for big pike! The bluffs are are good along with Commodore and Bearly St Bar. Find rock and weeds and the fish are there now! I also did well with gulp and darter heads.

We caught Pike, Smallies, Largies, and catfish! Fun Day! Biggest Pike was just over 42 inches!

There’s also excellent shore fishing either from waders or off the rock points of tenny Park, Picnic Point, Second Point, Warner, and along the university shoreline and even in the river is awesome! This is a fantastic fishery!!!

So much for wind from the east fish bite the least! Last 3 days we had east winds and fishing was awesome!!!!!!!

  1. A little bit later in the year when the weeds die down but not a ton. It is a great healthy multispecie fishery!

  2. Had some clients cancel last minute on friday night so I made it out with Steve from (finseekers) and good buddy Von doggler. Both Steve-O and Vonnie caught there share of nice smallies on gulp with darter heads fishing the deeper rock and 3/4 ouncs pumpkin bassstalker jigs worked best up in the weeds where Vonnie put on a little clinic with his jig skills. it was nice to see the biys having fun catching a pile of both smallies and largies in the brutal wind on Saturday but well worth it! We caught our fish from 4-18 feet of water. Pictured above is one of 3 double headers we had on Saturday all fish were released!
We ended up with over 20 bass and 5 were over 19 inches with 3 over 20 inches. Not a bad day considering the front that just came through!
