Fall sauger & walleye fishing is just starting to get under way here on Lake Wisconsin. The best bite is still several weeks away but a guy or gal can still do pretty good by using techniques that cover lots of water. Trolling crankbaits was the ticket for my boat this past Sunday.
My wife Nancy and I have spent the better part of the last two weeks traveling from Missoula, Montanna to Pittsburg, Kansas attending weddings of niece’s and nephews. It sure was fun sharing time with friends and family from other parts of the country but I was definitely ready to shake off the road dust and get back to fishing.
Brian Bollnow and Eric Novak jumped in my boat on Sunday, October 19th for some sauger & walleye fishing. This would be Brian’s third trip of the year and Eric’s second of the year in my boat. Neither one really wanted to keep any fish, they just wanted to have fun catching them and hopefully, get a few photo’s along the way.
After spending the last half of August and all of September chasing crappies, I was more than ready to switch over to walleyes & saugers. From here on out till ice up, the plan is to target walleyes and saugers. This is definitely my favorite time of the year!
We did try jigging some fish early in the morning but found that to be slow going at best. The fish still appear to be spread out over similar but wide ranging area’s and thats why trolling got the nod over other techniques.
Normally, I would give out a few more details on our trolling program, but with a local tournament coming up this Saturday, that wouldn’t be fair to the another guide on the lake who I share information with. He will be fishing in that tournament.
Sorry, hope you all understand!
A few more photo’s from the weekend.
1st – Brian Bollnow with a 20-3/4″ sauger.
2nd – Brian with a crankbait crappie.
3rd – Doug Kuiper with a pair of crappies from Saturday morning.
4th – Kyla Lindsey with a nice crappie on Saturday afternoon.
5th – Kyla with a decent bluegill.
6th – Trevor Ross with his first Lake Wisconsin crappie.

Time with family and friends is always fun ……but I would say you sure know how to shake off the dust
As always Joel, great read and pictures
Another good report Joel
Sounds like you had good travel but know what you’re saying about getting back after it. Once a guy starts fall walleye fishing it’s hard to think of anything else. Solid saugers! Great job!
Nice fish, always fun to get that multi-species action going.
Great report as always Boog!
Welcome back! It appears the fish have been waiting for you!
