Mississpi River Pool 4 10/19/2008

After a long absence from the river, I made it down for a 4 day weekend this past week. My week was spent pre-fishing, and knocking the rust off for the Saugerama that was held on saturday. It was great meeting new people this weekend, along with seeing old friends, and sharing my boat with Dean Marshall and Dave Marquart.

I spent my time pre-fishing, looking for saugers, jumping from spot to spot, and trying every technique that I could think of. What I found after two days of fishing was that the saugers were still scattered out throughout the whole river system. I believe that the fall migration is right on the verge of being in full swing. All that is needed at this point I believe is for the water temp to drop about 4 or 5 more degrees.

After trying just about everything I know, there seemed to be on technique that stood out for me. Most of you can probally guess what that is. Pitching blades far out-produced anything I tried. We had a few locations that were producing fish for us. Both locations were in slack water with shallow sand flat that drops into deeper water. We found most all of our better saugers about half way down the break in about 17 feet of water. Our best colors through out the weekend would have to be black, and gold. White and firetiger also produced a few fish for us.

I would like to send out a HUGE thank you to Dave Marquart and Dan Meyer at Skeeter Boat Center for setting me up in this awesome new boat. I could not be happier with this boat and with the excelent service I have recieved. They both have very high standards in reguards to service to their customers, and listening to what they have to say. Some of you that were around this weekend know what I mean when I say these are two of the easiest going, down to earth guys that just like to talk hunting and fishing, and like to do both themselfs. You can spend countless hours just sitting around and talking and the time just flys by.
So if your in the market for a new top of the line boat, be sure to check out Skeeter Boat Center.

Thanks again to everybody that was involved in this past weekends Saugerama. It was a great time for me and I hope you all enjoyed yourselfs. Hope to see you all at next years event if not before.

Until next time……….

  1. Here are a few other photos I took of the boat after I got it home this weekend. I am hoping to get a few pics of it on the water soon and will share them with you as soon as I do.

And wouldnt you know it none other than Dean himself was the first one to spill coffee in it.

Why doesn’t this surprise me??? It’s his trademark signature!

    Nice boat.

  3. It was fun talking with ya this weekend Eric. Our most consistent bite was pulling 3-ways with live bait or cranks on the breaks in 18 feet of water. Imagine that! I agree that the bite is right around the corner now–just hope I am there when it starts. I’m betting we’ll be seeing each other on the water again soon

  4. Eric, It was good to see you again. I’m sure I will be runnin into you in a couple weeks, as I will be back over to the river. Good job on sat I sure hope Dean pulled his weight for ya. Nice looking boat too.
    Wallster ><((((>

  5. Nice ride Eric. Was good to see you again.
Dean needs a sippie cup,I don’t think he has made a fishing trip with me without spilling a little coffee.

  6. Nice ride Eric!! I got my first experience fishing out of the 1880 this weekend on Mille Lacs. The only “knock” I’ve had on the boat was the in-ability to put a 4 stroke 200HP on it. Well, after fishing two nights in front of that HPDI, I was pleasantly surprised. The decibels were much quieter than I expected. A Lot less than the 175 Opti on the Reata in our group both at idle and WOT. Very cool!! Now I just need to fish out of that 1950 to see which one I like better.

Jeesh, let’s give Dean a break

I mean it’s not like a couple of you fellows haven’t dribbled on the gunnel of my boat

  10. Eric, congrats on the new BUG and welcome to the Skeeter family… A few cans of Scotchgard on the carpet will help keep Dean’s messes and fish slimee from staining it.Looks like some Skeeter reel money is gonna start flowing to the P-4 crew soon. Nice finish to both you and Dean. Hammer down! Greg Rudisill Team Skeeter

  11. Eric,

    Great report and new ride.

So much for coffee and cookies. Have you slimed the carpet with a northern, sheepie or cat yet? I try to make it one of the first things I do in a new boat.

    John

  12. Ok boys, have your fun, perhaps I may have spilled a cup or two in my day.

Good advice Greg….I may have mentioned that very thing to Eric about the Scotchgaurd, but perhaps a bit late.
