All that needs to be said is…..if you have a heart condition, make sure you have your nitroglycerin along while fishing top water Bass right now!!!!!
Waking up with anal glaucoma (can’t see my butt going to work) Wednesday morning, the boat was loaded and heading for water before light. I must say, it was more fun than sitting in a cube on a picture perfect day The morning air was at 50 degrees and the day warmed gradually to a shirts off temp of 70 degrees. A light Northwest wind put just a slight ripple on the water making for a great top water bite all day long, matter in fact, the best bite was from 11am – 2pm.
My favorite top water bait being the Super Spook created some great blow ups but it was more like the fish were just trying to cripple the bait instead of inhaling it. After this occurrence a number of times the bait was down sized to a chug bug. Bad call, it was only ignored A bone colored Spook Jr. ended up being the champ for the day boating at least 30 Bass The average size fish for me ran from 14-16inches but there were a few toads that wanted there pictures taken as well The LM at this time look like they have beer guts They are very healthy looking and it is very noticeable by looking at these fish, the feed bag is on
The areas I found to be holding more fish than others are not current related but, there are still good pockets of green weeds teaming with bait fish. The cabbage was in 4fow with dying lily pads just behind them on flats in 1.5-2fow. Some of the blow ups were in the dying pads but for the most part as soon as the bait hit the top of the green stuff it was fish on.
Other areas that produced some fish were pockets of float duck weed and some sand points but, these areas did not hold the numbers of fish found when finding living weed growth which is limited right now.
Another lessoned learned on this trip was slowing down the bait. A lot of the fish would slam the bait on a long pause. I’m talking a count of 10-20. With shad leaping form the water it is harder to do than a guy thinks.
For the last few hours of the day I jumped in the boat with Largemouth (Chad), I like riding in them bass boats After beating up on a few more LM and with the sun on it’s way down we hit a couple of wing dams looking for smallies. The first fish to hit off the tip of the wing dam was this LM Chad caught on his first cast. I couldn’t buy a bite but Chad did boat 3 smallies that were just short of legal size. Nothing big but it was a great way to close out the day.
If you are looking for something different to do and your not a big Bass fishing fanatic, give it a try now, Pool 8 top water is at it’s best
Good Luck fishing people

The first bass even put on some beauty spots for this picture
Fall bassin is a blast. Nice fish

Good looking fish Bret. Gotta love this time of year!
Anal glaucoma
Looks like a great time! Was going to chase some eyes around this week-end but might have to make it a combo trip
Great report Bret
Good report…nice fish!
Sounds like a fun day Buddy Bret Even if you had to fish with Chad
Don’t worry we kept the company afloat while you were out playing.
Those are some great looking fish Bret.
How’d they taste?
I must say…..they are better out of cold water
PS: Before everyone beats me up……they were all released with flash eye
I’d rather eat a pike
I can not believe that Blue turned you into a bass guy
Great report, as always
Nothing better than a great fall topwater bite.
Nice fish Bret…bass are a blast and on a very good bite in the fall…a good report, enjoyed it. Thanks. P.S. Glad you let em all go, fun to catch another day…crappie and bluegill make a great fish fry.
