Well better late than never. Got out this past Wednesday evening for some catfish action. My expectations were mixed due to the major cold front and drastic wind change that happend the night before. Typically on the Fox river any wind from south-west actually provided decent current flow for the river, being that this river flows from South to North, oppisite of most tradditional rivers. When the river is low and the wind blows directly up river at times the river is at a stand still, and in other locations there will be an oppisite current flowing up river for a while, all which seems to have at times small and large affects on these fish and their movements. Some of my best days this summer have been after a cold snap and strong North east winds.
So with that in mind I decided the only way to see how the bite was going to be was to get out and fish. My first spot, a shallow rock flat that held some really good fish last week was a complete bust and had no current, only a few small flatheads and a channel, the second spot down river on a sharp break near some structure is where there’s almost always current we cashed in.
Boating numerous fish again over the 30 lb mark. Our fish came on cut bait, and live bait again, with the live bait working better this evening.
I’m sure there are many more knowledgable guides out there that fish catfish a lot more than I do that could put the pieces of the puzzle together quicker, but it sure is fun learning new water picking spots and having the pay off is priceless!
just curious what part of the fox river are you fishing, we get to milwalkee, every year to fish salmon, maybe that will can be another new trip. Where we are we concentrate on walleye and crappie( like them 14-17 inch slabs). walleye’s are here but take’s the right time of the year. It says there are 3rivers that contain the fox. Any info would be great
thanks

Man…you have some nice flats!
I’m fishing from the mouth all the way up to Appleton, there’s lots of cats in each strecth I’ve fished.
Here’s a few more pics from that night
