What a great weekend it will be. The warmer temps will give everyone a chance to get out and enjoy some fishing. After returning from Mille Lacs, I have spent the past three days in pursuit of the eye bite. The best thing right now is wait them out! Once you locate fish, slow down your presentation and stay on top of them.
Right now the fish are close to deeper water. Fish any drop off or break. The drop may only be a foot or two, but any little subtle change in depth seems to be key. The 6 to 11 ft range has been the key area for us. My best producers for numbers has been hair jigs.
A variety of presentations has taken fish. Casting jigs, going vertical, deadsticking, all have put extra fish in the boat. The one constant has been a very slow presentation. The eyes are active but do not want anything moving to fast. The first picture is a nice eye that whacked a jig and leech combo. The bigger fish have been coming on leeches. The eaters and dinks are hitting fatheads.
The panfish action is fair. You can put together a good catch of gills and crappies. Ice jigs tipped with a piece of crawler or worm in 6 to 9 ft. Get out and enjoy the great weather this weekend! See ya on the water, Don.
I agree,I fished out of Red door On north end Mille Lacs sunday , It was a nice day only saw one big pike ,no eyes in the evening . Think I will go back to ST Croix this week
