SE MN’s Lake Zumbro Multispieces Fishing Report

Lake Zumbro in SE MN is home to some very nice multispieces fishing. You never know for sure what you may catch as there are fish in the lake ranging in size from a small perch all the way up to Muskys. The lake is a reservior thats a deeper and wider spot on the Zumbro River. Parts of it are like a lake and parts are like a river. It offers many choices to fishermen who want to get out on the water in their boat and have fun catching fish.

The lake has some nice size crappies along with alot of medium size ones too. The fish I found were all pretty much shallow with the water temps in the 65-70 degree range in different parts of the lake.

The lure of choice for most of my fishing this day were the Mini-mite jigs that Hooked On Fishing in Rochester is famous for carrying. You will hear me mentioning these jigs alot because these plastics will catch just about any fish in the lake. The fish seem to love them.

My choice of rods were St Croix rods in medium light and light action in the 6’6” length. I also have a new 7’6” Eagle Claw crappie rod that I picked up at HOF for casting these light 1/32 oz jigs alittle farther. Look for the crappies to be in or close to their spawning areas and the bluegills in there too. Right now is a great time to be on the lake catching fish. Theres just something about being on the water that is so relaxing and yet so much fun too. Hope to see you out there.

Thanks, Bill
