Lewis & Clark Lake Nebraska Walleye Fishing Report

Had a great weekend on the lake with family and some great friends. Saturday morning I got an early wake up call from Wade after a long night of strong thunderstorms. My first question was "are you serious?". The wind was howling at about 35-40 mph. I said what the heck, I didn’t come up here to sit in the tent. We headed out for a few hrs to find the water very very dirty and churned up. After a ten mile beating we decided we would head in and try again later. Ended up waiting until Sunday to head out. Couldn’t get a hold of Wade, so I headed out with an old friend from h.s. that was camping with us, Bob. We started aand Miller creek pulling Flicker Shads in Natural colors at 2.2-2.8 mph. It didn’t take long to land our first walleye about 19". We headed for camp at 10 am with three decent walleyes. After breakfast we took the wives and our kids out for an afternoon on the lake. The lake was flat calm and lots of traffic. We fished for a few hours with no luck, so we continued our trolling pass west, and suddenly Madison’s (my six yr old daughter) pole went back, after a long battle, she landed this nice 20 incher.

Moments later she landed another, just a hair over 22". These are her two biggest walleyes to date.

Next it was Kaden’s (my two yr. old son) turn. His rod went back, after a long battle with a bit of Dad’s help, he landed his first fish ever. About a two lb. sheep head. He will never forgive me for releasing the fish.

After a bit of relaxing on a beautiful sandbar, we headed in for the day.

Monday morning Bob and I hit the lake about 5:45am and started back at Miller Creek. We landed two fish right away, with one being Bob’s largest fish to date.

The wind picked up and the fish quit biting???? Yeah I don’t get it either. So I looked around trying to figure where the fish might have moved to. We headed to the closest wind blown point. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable hour of fishing I have had in a long time. We finished out our limit very quickly with the help of a triple.

  1. Great stuff, Jason!! If this is the lake I think it is, I’m hoping I’m able to make it up there again, it’s such a nice place. And you know there are lots of good fish in there. Great report with the fam!

  2. Jason, Great report! I had a good time this weekend despite spearing a few rollers on Saturday. My shoes finally dried out today. I enjoyed meeting your family. Your wife seems like a great gal. We’ll have to get the kids together again, hopefully on a day that we don’t have to dodge a “tornado warning”.

Here’s a couple of pics from the weekend. I was happy to send my father-in-law home with a few eaters for the pan.

  3. I forgot to add a thank you to both Jason and Mike Means. Having a few guys in communication sure makes it easier to keep everyone on the bite.

  4. Great pic’s guys. Where were you fishing? I sure hope that bite continues into the summer and fall.

    Mike

    Sorry forgot to add:

    “Who loves you?”

Daddy, Mommy, Sissy and Mike Loves Me.”
