Hot Walleye Bite Continues on Lake Winnie

The great Walleye bite has continued through Memorial Weekend on Lake Winnibigoshish. Numerous limits of Walleye and Perch have been brought in by our customers this week, including the one in this picture.

The baitfish have moved in shallow, and the Walleyes have followed them. Fishing in 2-9 FOW with a Shiner and a 1/16 to 1/4 ounce jig has been the best approach, but many fish are being caught on leeches as well. Best colors have been Parrot, Watermellon, and Fireball combos.

The best spots reported by our customers have been Plug Hat Point, Three Sisters, Tamarack Point, Mallard Point, and Ravens Point. Areas of the North Shore and Cut Foot are giving up a lot of quality fish as well. A slow presentation and a long shanked jig will give you the best possibility for boating fish.

Perch fishing has been very good in the Three Sisters and Plug Hat Point area. A 1/16 ounce jig with a fathead minnow has been the ticket. 11-13 inch fish have been very plentiful with 9-10 inchers being the norm.

Now is the time to fish Winnie! It doesn’t get any better than this.
