We have been catching some dandy walleye the past couple of nites using a variety of lures. The #12 husky jerks in the fire tiger color was the hot lure last night…….not a #10 or a #14, but a #12 only. Hook and I spent last night sharing our boat with ecnook one of our fellow staff members! EC caught most all the walleye in our boat- as he really put on a catch and release seminar!
We have been fishing the rock reefs along the eastside. Last night we stayed on Picard Point and the other night went as far south as Doe Island to catch our fish. The depth that we found to be the most productive was from 8-12 feet. The fish would go in streaks, on for awhile then off for awhile….I think I wore out a snap swivel the other night swithing lures!!! I have spent a great deal of time some nights going from one to another finding the right combination (action/color).
Last night Dave and I made the mistake of taking a friendly wager with Hook! I think after last night I might not ever go and bet on the biggest fish with Hook……This next pic is of a 49 1/2 inch muskie he caught last night!!!! This was the highlight of our night on the water. This monster was one big fish to bring to the boat…….we managed to finally land it after a 1 hour battle. Hook caught the muskie in 10 feet of water on a crayfish colored shadrap. The muskie made a number of deep runs after the battle ended we found that we had drifted out of the area where we first hooked the fish and now were in 24 feet of water and a half mile from where we first hooked it. This muskie is Hooks second in less than a week!!!!!!Oh yes, you may have have heard of Lucky Libby. Well we might now have Lucky Timmy on our staff!!!!!!! just kidding alittle buddy!!!!!
Some of the lures that have been productive for us these past nights have been: clown colored rouges, crayfish colored jointed shadraps, clown colored husky jerks, and black and sliver rouges.
Well I’m ready for a return trip out on the big pond tonite……I now have a new supply of #12 HJ’s firetigers….now I suppose the lure selection will change to ??????? else. Time for a quick nap, It’s another long night on the lake and down for the Grand Openning at Gander Mtn. Saturday………it is Saturday tommorow right? it’s been one fall fullmoon to remember!!!!!
Nice job Hooks!
Can’t wait till ecnook gets his pics loaded up. It was great having a cameraman in the boat those couple nights. We caught some awesome fish. Koonce had a fish that taped 27″s and weighed 9 lbs.
We had a 23″ fish that weighed 5lbs. 1 oz.
Incredible!!!
Nice musky Hook! Whats up with all the muskies? I have 5 muskies in the past 5 days. The biggest came the other night around 46-47 inches.
Nice to see the walleyes in such impressive weights. You are right, some of these fish are incredible as to how fat they are!
My first and only fish on Friday night came 3 minutes into my first pass. Heck, I was still organizing the boat when I notices the rod doubled over. Anyway, the fish was 23 inches, but went right at that 5lb range also. I didn’t get a good girth on her, but I couldn’t get my mits around her. I’m guessing that to be around 13 inches. The rest of the fish that night were just bulging. Great to see!! I’ll post some pics tomorrow. We had a huge pike that night also, we didn’t measure her, but she was over 36 inches. Look for some pics tomorrow.
Dee Zee, I see from your report where your fishing you are getting some real quality fish. On the east side where were fishing the numbers have been okay but the size is a little smaller than the west side. We are still picking up the occasional slot too!
Man you guys hit it right on the head when you say FAT one of the nights out with Hooks and Bobber Guide Service I caught a 27 inch walleye that weighed 9 pounds !!!
Hooks,
I have noticed in certain nights with more boat pressure the average size of the fish went down for me, but during the week or later int he evening the size went back up. My guess this had something to do with it? I bet those couple big muskies you caught had to of been a real treat. Those are truly a fish of a lifetime. Congrats again? What depths have you been having your best luck?
Nice fish Dave!
Some of my fish over the past week apeared like they had no tail due to the size of their mid sections. Finally starting to see a big body and smaller heads versus the other way around!
When boat traffic got bad we would either move away or stagger our run so the traffic was going the opposite direction, that way we had one end all to ourselves.
We’ve been concentrating on the 7-10 ft. depths that break into deeper water.
Two muskies in one week, who’d a thunk!!!
Nice fish Hook, Wish I had the time to get up there but it just dos’nt look good! Maybe I’ll be able to come up the weekend of the 25th if things calm down alittle and it dos’nt freeze up and,and,and….. The list just keeps growing. Have fun Bobber and hook!
