Pool 8, After Work Therapy 5/21/08

The keys to success tonight for Blue Fleck and myself, stay shallow and tight to wood. I’m talking tight enough too the wood that you are going to bust a gut laughing at each other for hangin’ up but yet, bragging on a good cast We were lucky and didn’t lose as much gear as we should have or, an eye

After some jawing the other night, Mike C was jumping in a boat with Marlyn and I convinced Blue to jump in my floater and head for a crappie hole that I have a lot of faith in….unless there is a stiff North wind increasing flow It didn’t take long and I had lost the faith Plan B; pull up anchor and start hitting shoreline….. and it paid off

First thought that crossed my head when I realized Blue was coming along…..we were going to find some rough fish

Armed with ultra light tackle and small plastics made for a hoot Note to self; “why do I buy minnows “ Patience at boat side was a must with the two largest smallies we landed. A couple good patient net dudes didn’t hurt either. The 2lb spun onto my Pflueger President Micro made for a thrill with this smallmouth that put on a great aerial show only before it had the drag working over time digging for bottom That was 2 very cool bonus fish we landed Blue, thanks for the Bass mojo you always bring to the boat

The action wasn’t fast but when you found fish there was a variety . Gills, Bass and a few crappies were found by slow trolling while pitching towards wood in slack water. Once we were bit an anchor was set so the area could be worked over good.

Scrappy gills made for some good tug of war also. A Chartreuse/White mini mite hanging 1 – 2 feet below a bobber has been on the end of my stick for the last 3 outings and is still going strong. I have replaced the tails a few times though.

Blue was successful with a variety of plastics and I am sure he will chime in. Mike C and Marlyn looked like they seen some action too….this is were you chime in also Mike

There is no better therapy than, time on the water with good friends and nice catch and release fish posing for pictures before heading home.

Below are a few more pics. Like I mentioned the bite wasn’t fast but we found some good scraping fish. The gills were from 7 to pushing 8 inches adding to the stimulation of being in a boat on the water. The 2 barleys didn’t hurt any either

Thanks for the fun friends and, Good luck fishing people

  1. Nice smallies guys!
Going fishing after work sure sounds like a great way to relieve the stress of the day.
Sounds great even if you don’t have any stress.

    Boog

That’s what you call a lucky fishin’ hat

A guide told me last year you can see what bait a guy uses by looking at their hat.

    Nice fish guys

  4. Thanks for the hat compliments. I had my choice between a Ranger hat or Ranger Bass boat.

I think the hat rides better.

Back to Bret’s report. I had another fantastic night on the water fishing with Bret. It’s always a pleasure fishing with great friends.

It just seems like I can’t get away from catching those darn Smallies.

    Oh well, such is life.

Thanks again Bret. Next time it’s my turn to drive.

    I agree.

  6. Great Report Bret. Great to meet you on the water again Blue. What a great night to be out there. I witnessed Bret landing that smally and yelled over “don’t touch it Bret, don’t do it”. The next thing I know he’s getting his picture taken with it. Guys, I think we’re slowly losing him to the ‘bass side’. I’m just glad we didn’t fish downwind of him either – heh Blue?
Have a great Memorial Weekend everyone – be safe.

  7. Great Report guys! I didnt know that Bret could catch a quality fish like a smallie. Congrats Bret!

  8. nice report Bret, thought I might cya on the water last nite, but ya must have been farther north. The eyes were a bit hungry again last nite, had quite a good time. good luck fishing–John
