IDA staffer Mike W and I stopped at my spring panfish honey hole on Friday before heading up to Mille lacs and we didnt get disappointed. The water temps at my spring panfish lake was 56 on the main lake but 61 in the prime panfish back waters. I cant stress enough how import it as to try to find the warmest temps on the lake to find active panfish.
Two degrees off and you did not get bit. The pannies were in small areas were the water was the warmest. Friday the fish didnt even want meat on our jigs. Today they wanted meat and a black/yellow jig. The water temps dropped to 56 today from the cold rain last night. Thats why the fish were picky today.
We had a blast and put on a clinic for some of the other boats watching us. Mike and I were a panfish machine.
Those look like some great bullgills!
Thanks for taking me in there Derek. That was amazing. We caught literately 100s of sunfish and crappies. Even a few perch mixed in and one lonely bass. Light jigs under a shallow bobber worked very well. Thanks again Derek.
Beat walleyes on the big lake, didn’t it.
Nice job guys Nothing better then spring time pannies
Nice Gills Derek and Mike.
Jack.
boys! That is the lake my Grandpa used to fish.
One of these days I gotta stop in there and give it a shot.
