4/22 Pool 4 White Bass

I had the pleasure of spending this afternoon with my wife and my son, Hunter, chasing white bass on pool 4 in the Red Wing area. The spring bite is just starting for white bass and they were snapping pretty good today.

All the bass we caught today came on blades with white and orange being the best colors for us. I am sure plastic would have worked equally as well but we didn’t try them. The only thing that seemed to matter was finding a good current seam. If you put the bait in a current seam a bite would soon follow.

This is a great time of the year to get a child out fishing. Once a school is found the bite can be near nonstop for these bass. Any child, young or old, (like me) is sure to have a great time.

We even got a few bonus fish like this low 20 inch walleye and a couple crappie.

  1. This bite will only be getting better in the near future so now is the time to get out and have some fun.
For anybody that is interested in getting in on the hot white bass action I suggest a visit with dean at Evert’s Resort. He will be able to set you up with the needed tackle and info to have a great day.

Please remember, though, that these fish are pretty vulnerable right now so practice selective harvest.

  2. Great job Hunter
Nice to see that you could finally get your dad to fish for bass and leave those rough fish alone for a day or two.
Lenny, those smiles say it all.

  3. Lenny,
Think I could get Hunter to give me some pointers on those blade baits—-I am over 50 and struggling with those darn things. Love those pics of the kids out fishing!!! Way to go Dad

  4. Great job Lenny! Looks like Hunter and dad had a good time on the water

5 years old and pitching a blade bait??? He’s following real close in your footsteps

  6. Lenny,

Years ago some friends and I would spend plenty of time targeting white bass. Seemed like they were almost always willing to bite and they fought good for their size. Just about forgot how much fun that was until I saw your report.

Looks like a great way to spend the day with family!
