I was able to make it up to the mighty miss last weekend with buddies Trevor Wilkey and Brad Brousard for some pre-spawn walleye action. Overall, we were not disappointed. We arrived Friday afternoon about 6pm and hitched a ride to the fishing float operated by The Landing 615 in Guttenberg. We got on some nice saugers right away casting electric blue ringies on half ounce heads up to the rocks to the east of the rollers.
Saturday morning we took Brad’s boat out and went to work looking for active fish. We played bumper boats with about 50 other boats trying to figure out the fish. There were a lot of fish stacked on the sand and clam bed south of the fishing float. We were able to boat quite a few fishing just upstream of the first wingdam. The best colors were electric blue and cotton candy from BfishNTackle and a grey/silver fleck color I found at Cabelas (not sure what brand).
Saturday evening we again hitched a ride out to the fishing float for the evening bite. The float is located in a great spot so it is often better to fish from it instead of from a boat if the fish are stacked on the rocks upstream of the float. We had a pretty good bite going again on this evening. Chartreuse pepper was the go to color with the clear skies.
Sunday morning we had an incredible feed going on before sunrise. Trevor’s first cast of the morning with an electric blue ringie was crushed by this big female. She was only 26″ but weighed right at 8.5 lbs. Nice fish Trevor!! A little later in the morning, the sun came out and I made a switch again to chartreuse pepper and got slammed by the 23″, 6lb eye pictured above.
I’d like to thank Jamie at The Landing 615 for the great hospitality and the free evening rides out to the float. The Landing is a great place to stay in Guttenberg. Very nice rooms, private launch, and you can leave your boat out in a slip if you want to. Also, Jon (Rugbystar) and Jordan it was great to meet you guys. Hope to get back up there soon.

Hey Andy –
nice fish – we were in the vicinity but I never noticed you guys on the float – some nice fish caught up there from Friday morning to Sunday. We released all the big girls up to and including a 27 that went 9 pounds (forgot the camera in the truck and didn’t want to stress her out with the payload she carried – so no picture of her – hope she hatches them all) we caught and still went home with some quality fish for meals. We did well with a different color variety of b-fish-n plastics, a little hair and more over those days. Glad you were out – hopefully we’ll see you up there sometime soon. Good luck, Chuckles
Hey Chuck!! Were you in a tan Tuffey up there by the sign? I thought I saw a guy that looked like you manning a tiller trolling motor up there. I tried to search emails and pm’s for your phone number but couldn’t find it. could you pm me again with your number so I can get it in my phone?? Thanks! Nice job on the 9lber too!!
Nice fish guys. Looks like I should just pile the rods in my wifes car and fish from the float. I can make 3 trips in that for what it costs to pull the boat up!
Nice job guys!
Nice fish and report Andy!
That one is my rig we used Sunday Andy, but fishing with others on other days in different spots and didn’t want to jump around too much Sunday – just wanted a relaxing day on the water with my boy and his girl was all…
We released one 20 plus and an 18 sauger – kept half a dozen for the boy to eat… hopefully we’ll see you up there soon and be able to catch up.
The canoe is always waiting for warm weather too!
Chuck
thanks for the info
Great report & walleyes!!
Nice fish & great report Andy!
Boog
Nice report Andy and congrats on the fish!
Great report, nice lookin’ fish you guys are on
Nice job Andy.
We saw you taking Trevors pic Sat.morning…..Nice fish Trevor! The bite is still happening on 11.Went out last night with water temps at 45 deg.The bite was pretty good in the rain with 5 fish coming to the boat casting to shallow rock, all on 1\8th oz.h2os with a chartr.ring worm.
Hoping the fish would really take off the last hour but the cold rain brought the temp down to 43 by the time we left.
There was only a handful of guys fishing the float last night Andy, there were fish caught but I didn’t see any the size of the pigs you guys were on last w-end.
Again, great fish guys, sounded like you were set up really well for the w-end.
I’ve never fished from the float before but that had to have been relaxing, especially when you know there are some bruisers close by
Chuckles, was that you with the great release of that 9lber?
We were anchored on the south end of the rocks.
Anyway,if it was, congrats on a great fish and an even better release job!
Great Report Andy… Looks like you guys had a good time. Those are some nice fish.
Nice looking fish and great report Andy. One of these days I am going to have to make a trip down and fish your way.
John
Nice job Andy!
Nice fish
Great job Andy
Thanks fellas!!
Last weekend the bite had slowed considerably up there. The fish were definitely in the middle of the spawn. a few here and a few there was the word. if we get some steady weather this weekend we should see some fish on the rebound, probably mostly males, and see a good shallow crank bite start to turn up there early and late in the day.
