Pool 2 3-24-08

Been able to make it down to pool 2 a few times in the last week. Seems like every trip the bite is a little different than the one before. The bite has seemed to of slowed a bit over the last week but there are still several bites going on. There is also a fair share of larger fish showing up that make sticking it out worth while.

A few weeks back water temps where in the low 40s and there was a good day time bite for both vertical jigging plastics and minnows. Water temps have dropped 4 to 5 degree since then and the fish look to be going better on minnows right now. There are good sized walleyes hitting on this bite during the day but you may need to put in a little time to get them. There is also a good sauger bite going. Large saugers to like the one in this photo.

Black jig heads in 1/8 to 1/4 ounce have worked well in current conditions. On windy days you may want to bulk up the head a little. Giving the minnows some good jigging action seems to get the walleyes to hit. Saugers are a little different and seem to want a bait just hanging there. Dragging jigs has worked well for fish also. Dragging down river 1/8 ounce jigs are working. Up river 1/4 or bigger will most likely be needed.

John23 and I had a pretty good trip on 2 yesterday afternoon. We ended up with about 15 fish by the end of the trip. Vertical jigging, pitching and dragging all took fish for us. Dragging 1/8 ounce and lighter jigs towards the end of the trip got us on our best fish. Our last few fish of the trip where 4 between 24 and 27"s. John also missed a couple of other nice ones. Good to share the boat with you again. Here is a nice one John got.

Sorry about the typo there John. You’ll get them tonight.

Good luck guys. I may see you out there tomorrow.

  4. Thanks for the report Mike, I talked with my boat dealership, they said the hose and cups won’t get enough water to a yamaha200, he thinks my water pump is O.K. so I will find out Friday, if not I will have to run it in. See you on the water.

  5. This is my first post on the site, and I’m planning on my first trip to the river this Saturday. Can somebody give me a suggestion about the best place to put in the water on pool 2 to get some eye’s this weekend? I’m also contemplating #4, does anybody know how the fishing has been down there this week? Thanks for any input!

  6. Welcome Josh. Hidden falls and lillydale are the 2 most popular places to launch right now. Both are close to the fishing action.
Both pool 2 and 4 are putting out fish. Wouldnt say they are just jumping in the boat at both places but a little time and know how will put fish in the boat.

    Welcome to the site.

  7. Great report Mike! It looks like you guys had a good day!

    Welcome to IDO Josh0043!

  8. Thanks Mike & Brad! I think I’m going to give #2 a try this weekend. If anything exciting happens I’ll post pictures.
