When fishing highly pressured areas, having the right electronics and moving around can be the key to success for a great day on the ice. At first, finding fish wasn’t too difficult, but trying to locate bigger fish can always be more challenging. Scott Strozinsky and I hit the ice of what turned out to be a great day of fishing.
With the weather warming and a clear day these crappies were hungry. We caught many crappies along with some very nice bluegills. We had to move around a few times to stay on a good quality bite in this backwater area, but we seemed to always stay on the fish. The crappies and bluegills were suspended from about 8 -14 feet of water. We used two jigs that really did a great job in catching our fish, the marmuska jig and also the gill pill tipped with a waxie.
In this last picture I caught this crappie that had a huge chunk taken off its back. We were both surprised that the fish was even a live and the cut looks fairly recent.
Overall it was nice to get out on the ice and with consistant action we couldn’t ask for a better day.

Did you guys get some recent fresh snow up there??
How is the ice holding up?
Good job!
Cool video Andy! Nice fish!! There is some dandy panfish in the Mississippi!
We were actually out there when the snow was really starting to melt.
Baby Mallard, you are right I would of lost a little if I had the mouth closed, but was a little awkward were I had the tape measure. Still I was very pleased with the fish we caught.
You might make more friends if you did not rip on every post in here BM. It was a very good report until your negative attitude arrived.
Great job and nice fish Andy
Them waters look familiar
You have never fished there before Bret.
I know that spot! Well, I wish I did.
I was going to rip on the host…but the video and editing always makes him look good…so I figured I wouldn’t.
