Lake Zumbro Has been treating me well this year. The bite has slowed a bit, but there’s a bite every day if ya spend the time to find it. The mornings Have been better for me as of late.
With the cold temps & Cool wind I’ve been in the shack most of the time. This has put fish on the ice for me. I like to run & gun most of the time, but sometimes you just have to decide to sit still & wait them out. And with the wife getting cold fast, we decided to stay warm & just enjoy our day on the lake. And we did just that.
With the days getting longer our time on the ice will be coming to a close soon. So I’m going to spend as much time on the ice as I can. We got a few crappies that were 3ft off the botton & all gills were close to the bottom. Gill Pills & Diamond jigs tipped with a waxie took all our fish.
As always you just never know what you’re going to catch & today was no different. This toothy critter liked my waxie & wasted no time racing off the botton to smack my jig.
All in all it was a slow bite that should really get going soon! Be safe & I’ll see ya on the lake.

Doug—is this from Monday morning? I was out there from 1030 – 230 with my son and three of his friends and another dad. We couldn’t get anything to bite. We were fishing with minnows. I realized I forgot to get waxies after we hit the ice but I knew I should have had them.
You might have seen us….we don’t have a shelter so we sacrified an old tent and cut holes in the bottom. Good thing we had sand bags in my truck to hold down the tent because that wind was wicked. Having that for wind protection really helped. We grilled some burgers and had a good time in spite of the lack of success! I have a picture of our set-up but it is at home…..I’ll have to add it later.
Nice report Doug ,If things ever quit coming up onthe weekends we will definatly hook up for a outting there.
