We have been having a good perch bite on several of the lakes. The walleye bite is pretty much taking place in the early morning and later in the evening. There is approximately 2-3 feet of ice and is of pretty good quality. Always watch for heaves on the lakes and use caution and you should do fine. Generally ice fishing follows the open water season; i.e., December/January is comparable to spring fishing, February fishing is comparable to July/August and March fishing is comparable to September/October. In February you also see a drop in oxygen levels which causes a slower presentation to get the bite. Using natural bait and a subtle presentation is usually successful.
Most of the lakes having a bite are shallower and usually have stained water. The deep water lakes with crystal clear water are not biting as well.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and if you notice most of the pictures are dated so you can tell if they were taken in January or February. If you are not familiar with the area or ice fishing, I highly recommend my guide Gary. These pictures are taken by Gary on some of his guiding trips He is fabulous and you will truly have a trip to remember, both in the friends that you make but also on the success of your fishing trip and the quality of your stay at the resort.
Sorry for not getting out the reports more timely I had a computer problem that took several weeks to take care of. These are pictures of both January and February.
I hope you are able to come out and enjoy the area and the fabulous fishing and outdoor recreation that we have. Thanks for taking the time to enjoy the pictures and hopfully we will see you try ice fishing, either as an individual or as a group for your family, friends or work-related customers/employees.
