Mille Lacs report 9-20-03

This morning Josh Hukriede and I hit the lake at 5am. The morning bite has been better for myself and others in the neighborhood lately. We were both anxious to get out and see where the water temperature has dropped to since the recent rain and winds. While my harbor temp. was 57 deg. as we left to get out on the main lake, and we found 60 deg’s along the eastside shoreline we were trolling.

The walleye shown here was caught on a clown colored husky jerk trolled in 10 feet of water. We caught 2 other walleye 17in. and 19inches. All caught on clown this morning! I did manage to catch a first daylight pike around 6 lbs on a firetiger bomber just prior to going in this morning at 7am.

My neighbors fished near by this morning and found thier fish up on top of the reef in 6-7 feet. They caught 8 fish in a very short time just prior to daylight. We fished the outside break of the reef as that’s been the area we have been catching our fish lately…….well not this morning!

I would recomend changing colors often looking for the right one. And also don’t be afraid to go up shallow and make a view passes and see where the walleyes might be. These walleye are moving around this time of year looking for bait. This morning again we caught a number of small perch in these areas that the walleye are feeding on.

I plan to go out this afternoon and evening and give it a try with slip-bobber and leeches. I will report how our luck goes later…….
