The best action on local lakes is being provided by panfish. Since last Thursday when I got out with Glen (Bass Boy), I have been trying to get a pattern going on the eyes. Sunday and Tuesday I spent my time on menomin. The eye bite was not there for me. I picked a few up verticle jigging, but it was slow going. I found fish between 7 and 15 ft of water. The smallie bite however, is getting better. The decent smallies are showing up on points and drops and are hitting cranks. The gills and perch are active. Trolling cranks has been my best procucer for them.
Wednesday through Friday I swiched gears and hit Tainter. The same patterns are working there. A variety of species are hitting cranks being trolled at about .8 mph. The main lake Basin provided the most action in depths ranging from 11 to 15 ft. The eyes are starting to show up on points, but the jig bite is still slow. I did hit a few eyes trolling but all were dinks.
Friday I spent the day on the water with a couple of great guys. Ron and Kent fished with me earlier This spring. They were nice enough to share another trip today. We had laid out a good game plan and were hoping that the cold snap did not shut things down. After I figured out the best trolling speed and wind, the poles started bending. Things were a little tricky with the breeze that was blowing, but the guys did a great job of controlling their baits. We were having a great time because we never knew what was coming to the boat! Perch, crappie, white bass, and eyes kept us busy. The first picture is Ron with a couple of crappies.
We were trolling a variety of cranks in 11 to 13 ft of water. Our best bet today was trolling into the wind. The second picture is Kent with a couple of nice perch.Guys, thanks spending the day with me. Both lakes have a panfish bite going right now. Get out this weekend and have some fun. See ya on the water, Don
