Cedar River, IA – fishing or riding the range?

Fished the Cedar River on Sun. the 14th with Big B. and my son Owen {little fish dude}. Started by throwing cranks to the rock bars. Not much sucsess. Only a few small bass. Maybe the wet, cold front on Sat. had them shut down. Started trolling cranks in deeper water where the sand and rocks came together. Did manage to get a handfull of walleyes to the boat. Pictured is Big B. with a walleye that was eager to bite. No big walleyes this trip but enough action to keep us in the game. Best baits were #5 shadraps in silver or gold.

Largest fish of the day came when Owen hooked fish with a Rebel crawdad. Light action rod with 6# mono. It had him up and down the river several times before he got it broke to lead and B. got the net under it. Here is Owen and Bri. with a 17# buffalo. Talk about fun! Owen was smiling from ear to ear, and B. and I were not far behind. With the big buffalo we have been getting the last few outings, I’m not sure if we are fishin’ or riding the range. All I am sure of is we are having a ton of fun!!!!

  1. By the looks of the grins in your pics, it appears everyone had a great time!
    Big Buffalo…..Giddy Up!

I cannot wait until the day that I can tangle with some big fish like this with my little boy!

  2. Sounds like the fishing wasn’t to bad for ya. I can about imagine Owen’s reaction when that one got in the boat. Great fish little dude.
