The bite is heating up, Lake Winnie, MN

Winnie is showing some great signs as of the last week. We are continuing to see those bigger fish, as I am not sure were they went this summer but there back. I had the opportunity to fish with Bill Muckalt of the Minnesota Wild this weekend with Dan Treb. We fished Pokey on Saturday night and had good success, but then today we landed on Winnie for a great day of jig and minnow fishing. The shallow weeds which transitioned to rubblerock was the area which held the best numbers. Here is Bill first slot fish, boy when the pressure was on, he stuck the big ones.

We stuck to the east shore, fishing in the 4-6 feet of water. The snap-jigging seemed to be the key. The fish are still somewhat spread out, so once the bite slows, we would move 50 yards or so and hit another group. The fish are getting more aggressive each day. Here again is Bill and Dan with another one of those slot fish for Bill.

All in all it looks like a great start to the fall bite on Winnie, but we still need the water temps to drop to get those fish schooled up better, we all know its just a matter of time before that happens. There is some activity in Cutfoot already. Look for the wind blown shorelines to be active as we slowly move into the fall frenzy. Thanks for the great trips guys, and go Wild, we want the cup this year.
