With September upon us it is the time to catch big trout. If today was any indication it’s going to be a great month. Brian and I started the month of right by catching a 19inch,18inch,17inch,and multiple in the 14inch-15inch range all in one morning.
The day stated out on Trout Run. I have never personally been a huge fan of the river, but today changed my mind. The very first hole that I fished netted a 17inch,brown on the 1st cast, and a 19inch, hog at the head of the hole. In between I landed 9 other nice trout. I was fishing a #14 hare’s ear trailed by a #18 pheasant tail. The smaller fish all took the hare’s ear, but the two larger fish took the pheasant tail. Trout Run in general was in great shape running cold and very clear.
We then took a drive to Duschee Creek where it was Brian’s turn to land some nice trout. Brian was lucky enough to land an 18 incher and had another bust him off roughly the same size. He was also using a pheasant tail/hare’s ear combo. I switched to a hopper and had good success, but the fish were a little smaller. Duschee was low and very clear. There is a lot of vegitation in the stream right now – almost to the point that it makes it hard to nymph in many spots in the stream.
There are lots of hoppers in the fields right now, and are very productive throughout the day. There are still some trico hatches, and some other smaller caddis and mayfly hatches later in the day. This time of the year I prefer to nymph early in the day. Daybreak to nine AM is a very productive time for larger trout. I like to fish a hopper throughout the day. As evening approaches I will throw a an attreactor pattern like a Royal Wulff. All of these methods will produce some larger fish this time of year.

Oh yeah, your website addres seems to be incorrect? Do you have an updated page url?
Greetings,
I fished yesterday and today. (was breaking in a new 3wt.what a joy)Yesterday, fished the root up stream fom Preston…fished all morning using 22-24 tricos, emergers and later spinners….had a 30+ fish day (all C&R)
This morning went out to North branch of white water….there were tricos there, but the fish wanted the small 18-20 caddis. It was great…didn’t fish as long this morning, but easily a 20+ fish morning. Never anything as bigger than 14….mostly 9 to 11’ers…but on the new 3wt, what a blast…On both streams, water was very low and clear
Sorry James no Pics. I took an unplanned bath recently in a stream with my digital camera around my neck – oops!!! The new system is great. The URL should be the same for our websight, but I’ll pass it along via PM.
