Mille Lacs Mon 10/22/07

On Monday, I made it back up to Mille Lacs for my second trip this Fall. Light winds, clearing skies, and 5 days before the full moon, conditions just said I had to made it up there. Jerry joined me this night, we got started late, and were on the water and fishing by 8:30.

Overall fishing, I thought was a little slow. We caught 8 Walleyes from late evening up to about 1:30am. We fished the NW side of the lake, from Garrison down to St Albans Bay, in mainly 5 to 9 feet of water. The first pic is myself with a 23 1/2 inch Walleye that hit a firetiger HJ in 7 feet of water. and the 2nd pic is Jerry’s evening best at 24 inches. Jerry wanted to fish a small #5 ShadRap, and I used diferent colors of Rogue’s, and HJ’s. I did not really find a convincing pattern, but Jerry’s ShadRap did catch 5 of our fish.

I know the fishing will only get better as the water temps continue to fall. Last night we had an even 50.0, and I am looking forward to some great Fall Mille Lacs fishing well into November…

I continue to learn from the Pro staff, and other fellow members here on IDA, and I appreciate their taking the time to write detailed, complete Reports and answer questions as they come up. As a Walleye fisherman, I’ve got a lot to learn, and InDepthAngling has been a valuable asset for me.

  1. Thanks for the great report Jack.
When I am up there tomorrow night until Sunday I’ll be sure to keep your story in mind.

  2. Great report Jack. Was that a shallow running shad rap Jerry was running. I havent spent much time on them this year. Have had some good nights with them in years past.

  3. Glad to see that you guys got into some nice fish last night! I’ll bet it’s a little rougher out there tonight.

  4. Great report, Thanks. I will be fishing within 24 hours!!! Can’t wait to get addicted to the “fall trolling” bite you all love!!!

  5. Thanks Guys,

Mike and Jetro- the Shad Rap was the regular Rap with the deep diving bill, NOT the bent lip, shallow model.

I forgot to say what color the shad rap was earlier when I wrote this. it was a shad color, sort of a darkish silver.

I wanted to fish 5-8 feet with my stick baits, and I totally forgot my Trolling Bible, so I told Jerry to start out with 50 feet out, and if he didn’t feel bottom to put out 5 more. must of been right as he had some nice fish. Hoping to get out tonight or thurs, then again on Sunday night.

    Good Luck All.

    Jack.

  6. i was out alone on monday evening also. i was fishing the sw corner. clown hj was the bait that caught all the fish. i would catch a fish on the clown, then i would try a few different baits, then go back to the clown and catch another one, make a few more passes with either shad raps or stick baits. the fish that night wanted the clown. i was out from 8 till just before midnight and boated 5 fish. i think if i stayed with the clown all night i may have caught more, but i was out to see what else would work besides the go to clown and firetiger colors. i fished 4 different spots and got all the fish at the second spot that i fished. the fish were from 223/4 to 24 inches and fat. i did have a few hits that did not hook up and i also caught someones new 150 yard spool of powerpro with a brand new mepps giant killer. it took a little while to retreve it but it was worth it, that much less line in the lake to get caught in my motor and a new bucktail too boot…………tom fellegy
