Well there is no need to hit the water early. The midday bite is still going strong. A nice variety including perch, pike, and eyes, made for constant action. There were times when we were getting hit before we had let out the line to desired depth.
The water temp has dropped about 8 degrees in the past few days. The water is also real dirty, with alot of weeds and floating gunk! Keeping the cranks clean was a task at times, but if they ran clean for a few minutes they were going to get popped. The location has changed just slighty. Most of the eyes are now located in the two river channels. The perch and northerns are still on the adjancent flats.
The long minnow style of cranks are right now the best producers. We had the most success with Reef Runners in anything close to resembling a perch. The shad or shadling type cranks simply did not produce today. We ran between 8 and 12 ft, varying the speed up to 2.5 mph.
Spent the last portion of the trip doing some live bait rigging. A 3 way set up floating a leech got alot of walleyes action. Crawlers gave us more perch action but the size was not there. This is some of the best fishing I have seen for this time of year. Cranks, livebait, it does not matter. Get out and enjoy some fast paced action. See yaon the water, Don. Oh I almost forgot- I also seen a huge snapping turtle. He surfaced twice near the boat. I figure a nice hunk of chicken meat on a snoopy pole, and "StillaKid2" would have some great action!
Thanks for the Report Don
