I have only had the chance to hit the river one more time since my last report. With the warmer weather we have seen over the past week I was sure the bigger walleye that I was focusing on last week would pull out of the areas I have been targeting. Not the case!
I shared my boat with Sean Lyons and Greg Spencer on Sunday of this past weekend. Sean kicked off our day, with the second fish pictured here, that was caught in 3 casts on a #5 blue shad rap. . It was pretty much all up hill from there. We mixed our presentations on and off throughout the day, casting crank baits, pitching ringworms and hair jigs all had a chance but the crank bait bite shined for us on this day. Firetiger, and crank baits with some blue on them were our best colors on this day. Shad Raps in both #5 and #7 sizes seen some action on these shallow water walleye.
Greg took big fish honors on this day with a 29 ¼” 9lb.4oz walleye Nice eye Greg! Sean wasn’t to far behind with another walleye pushing the 9lb mark. I had to settle for the 5lb and 7lb fish on this day . By the time we called it a day we were only able to boat 10 walleye for the days trip with 5 walleyes over 6lbs and one 5lb fish that I am pictured with below. I am starting to see some smaller fish make a showing in the shallows also as we did boat 4 walleye in the 20” to 23” class. All of our fish on this day were caught in less than 6’ of water casting crank baits to rip rap. As always, it was a great time fishing with the two of you!
With the cooler temps that are forecasted, the walleye bite on the river should continue to improve.
I’ll see ya on the river!
A couple more walleye that we boated on this day. Sean is posing with fat and sassy 7lb. 6oz walleye. I am pictured here with a nice 24″ walleye.

Now that’s a hard day’s work!!!
Congrats to you and your new bride Sean! Also, congrats on the fish—these reports are making work very difficult this week. I’ll be down this weekend and hope to see you guys then.

Great fish guys. I can’t wait to hit the water the next two days. I’d be happy with even one of those fish.
Of course it is B . We wouldn’t have it any other way would we?
