Hi: Thought I would send you some pictures of the fishing last September and give you a report on the latest fishing conditions. These are some of the pictures from September 1st thru September 30th with the hunting picture on the 30th.
Bass fishing is hot. It used to be that there were 3 main bass lakes in the area but that number has increased and there are some really nice lakes to fish including Roy. Expect to get at least 18” bass with up to 20#”on the Smallies. For Large Mouth the average size seems to be 3.5 to 6.0 pounds. Last October a 9#4oz. Large Mouth came out of Roy….a State record. In the SD Whopper section of Dakota Country Magazine for August 2007 there were 14 proud angler awards for catch & release bass caught on the lakes here.
If you are going for Walleye, the bite has started with some very nice walleyes coming in. Our water temperatures are a little erratic for walleye right now, but our cool nights have helped cool the lakes down. You should be finding them in deep water and we have a lot of lakes to try fishing for them.
Pan fishing has really taken off. Blue gills, crappie and perch are being caught. On Roy lake they are still in the smaller sizes, but other lakes are producing some nice eating size fish.
Also, on the crappie that Maddie caught a couple of weeks ago. That particular dock has been set up by Ladredge Outdoors with their Reel Weeds (www.ReelWeeds.com) underneath the dock providing more habitat for fish and it has been working great! Lots of people out there fishing and catching fish. Try their website and learn more about their product.
Enjoy the pictures and the only thing I can say is….wish you were here.
By the way, if you aren’t familiar with Roy and other lakes in the area try fishing with Gary, even if it is to get to know a few lakes in a day so that you can fish them on your own. He doesn’t mind helping and it is a great way to jump start fishing the glacial lakes.
Take care and hope you had a great labor day…..from one worker to another….
